Public Works Completes Protection Works for Zarqa Ma’in Bridge at the Dead Sea and Continues Other Works

Al-Taj News – The Ministry of Public Works and Housing has completed protection works for Zarqa Ma’in Bridge on the Dead Sea Road, while works to address and reinforce the protection of Al-Mujib and Wadi Al-Shaqiq bridges are ongoing, as part of projects aimed at reducing the damage caused by floods and enhancing the road’s readiness during severe weather conditions.

The completion rate for Zarqa Ma’in Bridge (Bridge No. 4) reached approximately 100%, following the completion of the installation of metal containers measuring 12 and 6 meters in length, the required filling and excavation works, in addition to reinforced concrete works for the slopes and walls at the bridge’s outlet.

At Al-Mujib Bridge (Bridge No. 7), the ministry carried out precautionary works before the onset of the recent weather depressions, including the complete cleaning of the stilling basins. The completion rate for rubble and concrete works at the bridge’s outlet reached approximately 95%, as part of works aimed at strengthening the bridge’s protection and increasing its capacity to withstand floodwater flows.

At Wadi Al-Shaqiq Bridge (Bridge No. 8), the ministry completed works to clean and divert the course of the valley and completely remove sediment beneath the bridge, in addition to carrying out gabion works and repairing the concrete slabs of the bridge’s channel and outlet.

Reinforced concrete works for the slopes at the outlet of Wadi Al-Shaqiq Bridge are currently underway, with the completion rate reaching approximately 70%.

Minister of Public Works and Housing Maher Abu Al-Samen said these projects are part of the ministry’s strategy to raise the efficiency of the road network and its facilities in areas most affected by floods, improve road safety, and ensure the continuity of traffic on the Dead Sea Road and Wadi Araba Road, particularly during the winter season.

He added that the projects contribute to enhancing transportation and supporting tourism and economic activity in the southern Jordan Valley areas.

In a related context, Abu Al-Samen directed the implementation of a designated parking area for vehicles in the “Hot Springs” area on the Jordan Valley Road, with the aim of organizing traffic and serving visitors to the area.

The parking area aims to reduce the random parking of vehicles on the main road, which had been causing traffic obstruction and posing a risk to the safety of road users, thereby contributing to improving traffic flow and providing a safer and more comfortable environment for visitors.
